Irish Coffe is the perfect dessert after the meal, where you don’t have room for ice cream or cake, but still desire something sweet. The beloved coffee drink with the lovely whiskey taste and freshly whipped cream can easily replace a dessert after a big dinner.

Where does Irish Coffee come from?
As the name implies, of course, the coffee drink originates from Ireland, where there have been whiskey distilleries since the 12th century. While the name might make you think of an Irish pub where the firewood glows in the fireplace while Irish folk songs are sung, it’s pretty far from being such a place where Irish Coffee was invented.
From the 1940’s there were several varieties of coffee with whiskey, but it is chef Joe Sheridan who is considered to be the inventor of Irish Coffee in 1943. At Foynes Airport in the west of Ireland, the tired and frozen passengers were offered coffee with whiskey after a flight where the plane had to return to the airport due to bad weather. It tasted so good that a new classic was born!

Ingredients
Irish Coffee is often served in an Irish Coffee glass, a plump and sturdy glass on a stalk. And forget canned whipped cream! Buy a good, organic cream and whip it lightly. It should be soft and fluffy and not too stiff. For the best result, shake the cream in a cocktail shaker.
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 4 cl whiskey
- 1 dl coffee
- Freshly whipped cream
- Cocoa powder
How to make an Irish coffee
- Preheat the glass with boiling water before making the delicious coffee drink.
- Put brown sugar in the glass and add whiskey.
- Add coffee and stir well until the sugar is dissolved.
- Put the freshly whipped whipped cream on top and give it a sprinkle of cocoa powder.
- Drink the hot coffee through the fluffy layer of whipped cream. No further stirring is required.
